‘Sleep’ reflects Helen’s lifelong preoccupation with and anxiety about ‘getting a good night’s sleep.’

Consisting of drawings, paintings, and 3D, this collection is the culmination of two years of work.

The exhibition also raises issues of sleep-related problems due to illness, emotional difficulties, and social dislocation, which others known to Helen are experiencing

Artist Bio

Helen was born in Melbourne and initially worked as a primary/art teacher in special education. Her art training is ongoing, and she has participated in many art workshops both as a teacher and student. A two-year residency at Nyora Studio Gallery in Eltham, a print workshop in Florence, Italy, and a two-year group portrait project working with homeless teenagers were highlights of her artist’s journey.

Helen’s interest in portraiture has been significant with her selection for many national portrait award exhibitions.  Her portrait of The Seekers is held in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. More recently, Helen has been incorporating 3D into her work, focusing on mixed media, repurposing found materials, and assemblage sculpture.
