Artist Statement

Tracy the Artist Potts has, by her account, long scoffed at religion. Any or all of them. Not picky. One day it occurred to her that having spent decades scoffing it was time to learn about that of which she scoffed. She comes from a family of serious scoffers and so, none of them had taught her anything about god etc. except that god doesn’t exist.

Scoff scoff and scoffity scoff.

Since childhood Tracy the Artist has been a fan of evolution, dinosaurs, fossils - all the interesting things. In fact during a solo road trip in the UK she made a special trip to Lyme Regis specifically to hang out where the OG fossil hunter Mary Anning lived and worked. Visited her grave and thanked Mary for being a number one good human.

But it came time for Tracy the Artist to investigate The Bible, primarily the Old Testament as she’d heard from one of her heathen family members it was juicy and full of wickedness. She bought a bible from an Opp Shop, downloaded the OT on Spotify and began her task. Needless to say she didn’t get very far. It just didn’t make sense. She tried and tried and really tried but nup, no go. Like how does someone live for hundreds of years? Where did the wives come from? Were dinosaurs allowed on The Ark?

So she asked me to let you know her current work is her personal theory regarding creation. It goes like this…

“So god got really jiggy with it for six days. When he finished up on Saturday night he was well knackered and went to the pub where he proceeded to imbibe in countless alcohol beverages. All that work was thirsty work. Anyway he woke up Sunday morning with a ripping hangover and bits and pieces of things that he didn’t use whilst creating.

He ordered fast food delivery and spent the whole Seventh Day eating junk food, watching Netflix and crafting those leftover pieces into wonky creatures. That’s what each of these creatures represents.”

Artist’s conclusion.

Think very carefully about what you decide to learn. There’s a really good chance it will encourage intrusive thoughts, mess up your brain’s personal algorithms and life will never be the same again and she doesn’t mean in a good way
