Statement
Small Wonders began with Red Gallery’s SMALL group exhibition, where hundreds of works offered brief glimpses into different artistic practices. Some stayed with us — curious, intimate, playful or quietly beautiful — and made us want to see more.
This exhibition follows that curiosity, inviting a selection of artists from SMALL to return with a broader view of their practice. Together, their works find wonder in the everyday: in familiar scenes, small gestures, unexpected details and moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Fiona Tang
Artist Statement
Fiona is a contemporary painter based in Melbourne who specialises in oil painting. She employs various techniques to convey her perspective on the world.
Fiona studied at the Fine Art College of Capital Normal University in Beijing and at the University of Wollongong. She earned her bachelor's degree in Art and Art Education.
She has hosted a solo exhibition at the National Art Museum of China and has exhibited her work at the Melbourne Art Fair and various galleries in Hong Kong.

Artist Statement
I imagine myself talking to my old therapist about leaving my day job to pursue full-time life as a ceramic artist. Then suddenly a creature is born from a plant on his desk. I explain and explain - the contradictions: anguish and joy, fear and confidence, shame and pride, isolation and support. The little creature becomes more excited and it grows in size. A toddler, terrified of everything. It struggles to get up.
It grows, and so does its anxiety. It loses control, dangling from a rope. The rope hurts, the creature enjoys it. It is alone, it is supported. A community cheers it on from below. The foundation for an art awakening.
Forever later, a baby has swung, has walked and leapt and departed and created. Art. The path is long. Now it is this, without limbs and with a cheerful smile. A cloak of teardrops wraps around, each one sculpted individually, through repetitive and hypnotic actions, as a means to curb sorrow. It overlooks the chaos of the infantile monsters. It was once like them. It is stronger.
There is a particular kind of fear/joy that comes with choosing to change your life. Mine is a vulnerable creature, hand-built and processed in my studio from mud, tears and ceramic.
I miss my therapist.
Artist Biography
Frankie Pan (he/him) is a Singaporean born, Naarm based ceramic artist, film maker and photographer. His practice is imbued with the creative processes that allow him to explore work and play as a Chinese Singaporean living in Australia, and further complicated by the mid-life crisis of a 43 year old goth who loves Charli XCX. Drawing from experience and identity, his work weaves together influences from film, music and pop culture.
Zoë Dawes
Artist Statement
Zoë Dawes creates intricate photorealistic oil paintings that pay close attention to the subtle qualities of surface and texture and the interplay between light and shadow. Her work grows from ordinary moments of everyday life, captured using a smartphone camera and transformed into carefully rendered oil paintings. Through this translation, Dawes gives permanence to ephemeral moments of mundaneity and invites the viewer to immerse themselves in contemplation of the everyday through the artist’s perspective.
Artist Biography
Zoë Dawes (b. 1998) is a self-taught oil painter from the UK, currently residing in Melbourne. Despite always having a keen interest in the arts, including obtaining a degree in art history from the University of St Andrews, it wasn’t until 2022 that Dawes bought her first set of oil paints and taught herself the techniques needed to create the detailed work she makes today. Over the past four years her practice has continued to gain an exciting level of momentum, producing a body of work that is both technically adept and impactful.
Isabel Linden
Artist Statement
Isabel’s collection focuses on the places where people gather to eat, recognising food as an essential expression of culture, identity and community. Her compositions balance vibrancy with clarity, reflecting the energy, movement and sensory richness of shared dining experiences. Through colour and gestural mark-making, she translates the sensory experience of food and place without sacrificing a sense of considered composition.
Artist Biography
Isabel Linden is a mixed-race, Melbourne-based artist exploring culture, connection and memory through vibrant mixed-media works. Her practice is rooted in three interconnected themes: epicurean experiences, culture and botanicals. Through bold colour, expressive brushwork and layered texture, she transforms familiar places, rituals and experiences into visual narratives that celebrate the richness of everyday life.
With a background in design, Isabel approaches each work with intention, balancing considered composition with intuitive mark-making and an instinctive use of colour. She often works in series, allowing herself to immerse deeply in a particular place, story or cultural experience and develop a broader visual narrative around it.
Food and shared experiences are central to her practice, reflecting her interest in the ways culture is expressed through the places we gather, the things we eat and the memories we create together. Her work is held in private collections internationally and is particularly loved for its joyful honesty, vibrant energy and celebration of the everyday.
