ARTIST  STATEMENT

Silent Ground is an exploration where colour, space, atmosphere, and body movement collide.

Observing the enduring capacity in adaptation and renewal of the nature, and drawing from memories, poetry and music, Silent Ground reflects my ongoing investigation into how creating non-figurative body of works enables the emotional and visual understanding of the world around us. Through embracing expressive mark making and action painting with vibrant colour, my brush strokes dance with the unpredictable rhythm of intuition on canvas, which acts as an arena where emotional energy is released.

In honour of National Carers Week, Silent Ground is a celebration of creative renewal and a tribute to the resilience of unpaid carers in our communities. This isn’t a showcase of silence but is an invitation to viewers into a space where vulnerability becomes strength and the inner self is given room to breathe. I hope my work can resonate with viewers to care about the nature and the people next to us.

ARTIST  BIOGRAPHY

Connie Wong is an Australian contemporary artist, nature lover, adventurer and mother.

Her practice, developed over four decades since migrating from Hong Kong to Melbourne Australia, emerges abstractly with expressive gestures, spontaneous body movement and colours that reflect sensory and emotional signals. As mentioned in her SBS interview, Connie transforms her daily life experiences – including age, gender, and immigration – into creative work.

She has earned a Master of Contemporary Art degree from the Victoria College of Art, University of Melbourne, received the Endeavour Australia Award travelling overseas, and been a finalist in art exhibitions.

Drawing on action painting and inspiration from artists Tony Smibert AM, Judith White, Lindy Lee and Jackson Pollock, Connie aims to engage her viewers’ senses with unpredictable moods and feelings that create a limitless sense of the sublime, vibrancy and resonation to self-reflection. She sees artmaking as a never-ending curious journey with its process guiding her to experiment with new ideas and concepts, from both eastern and western art history.
