Artist Statement
Sarah Wolfs’ Art Practice is influenced strongly by the works of 18th & 19th C Naturalists and Botanical Artists. Whilst they were dedicated to the realistic representation of the Natural World, they also allowed themselves to include elements of complete fantasy in their work. (Note the tongue protruding from a flower pod in Wolf’s painting ‘Earthly Delights’.
Wolfs’ paintings are also concerned with Beauty, and humans’ inherent connection to the Environment, speaking to our need to cherish and protect it. The title of the exhibition ( and one of the paintings) , ‘The Butterfly Effect’, refers to the fundamental interconnectedness of all living things
Working in the traditional mediums of Oil & Acrylic, Wolfs’ practice bridges Classical and Contemporary Art, encouraging equal attention to aesthetic Beauty and current Environmental concerns. Paintings in this body of work have been finalists in multiple Art Prizes around Australia, but this is the first time they have been hung together as a complete collection.
