ARTIST STATEMENT
T.A.Lewis’ work is a reckoning to the human-psyche, the space that lies between the conscious and subconscious. Deriving initially from a lack of connection which has led to seeking internal clarification.
His work is psychological in many ways, pulling from his surroundings, his past, his current, his memories; looking to align, seeking a deeper connection with ‘the self’ and how the disconnect within oneself can affect physical and mental health; working in past experience, pulling from destruction in many forms.
Working with oils relates to T.A. Lewis in the realm of the heaviness, the weight, the weight that we can all feel as human beings. The outlook and goal in his creative life is to seek a deeper understanding, share this understanding and initiate these conversations with others around him to share, connect and understand.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Todd Anthony Lewis, is a creator based in Dharwal Country, Thirroul. Originally from Gadigal Land, Western Sydney. Todd has spent the majority of the last decade in the EU/UK (Berlin/London) playing music and working in music.
Todd grew up in a working-class family in Western Sydney, pulling his creativity from drawing as a child, playing guitar in his early years which was influenced by his father and brother in law.
He now understands how this early influence has pushed his desire to move into painting and pursue a career as an artist.
Working into his second solo show, and second for the year, Todd describes his work as an internal search, and seeking of alignment and understanding of the interior meeting the exterior, seeking balance and a deeper understanding within the human-psyche.
