ARTIST  STATEMENT 

Paul has wanted to survey his figurative work for some time. This exhibition reflects a range of interests that Paul has had in the figure over the past 47 years. 

The self portraits are the same painting repeated, but reflecting the aging process. Many self portraits have been produced, as the model was always willing and available.

Images around birth was a fascination in 1986 while years of life drawing resulted in paintings. 

Cataract surgery in the early 2000s improved Paul’s vision and more detailed paintings were produced when the eye fog was cut out.

Reflecting on the human condition through artwork has provided a thread of connection and provided a measure of therapy.

ARTIST  BIOGRAPHY

Paul Robinson was born in Melbourne in 1948. Paul has mostly lived in rural Victoria.

After being directed into the maths/science stream at secondary school, art as a subject was no longer available. Paul started painting at home. 

He graduated from Monash uni with an Arts degree in 1970. He did a Dip Ed after deciding to teach.
