ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Helen Edwards was born and grew up in Melbourne. She left school teaching to work professionally as an artist in 1992. Initially painting in soft pastel Helen gained recognition for her landscapes and figurative works. Her lifelong interest in drawing has informed all her works and she has exhibited widely in group shows and held regular successful solo exhibitions. Portraiture has been a constant focus for Helen with selection for many National Portrait Competitions. Her portrait of ‘The Seekers’ was acquired by The National Portrait Gallery in Canberra.
Largely self taught Helen is committed to continuing growth as an artist and several years ago enjoyed two years of mentoring with a respected artist. She was encouraged to experiment and play with a variety of media and ideas which lead to her experimentation with sculpture and various mediums including printmaking.
