Artist Statement

Nocturnes is an exhibition of oil paintings by Jane Farnan which interprets and reimagines the night landscapes she has encountered in her travels. In this body of work Farnan has transformed the dark landscape into a sometimes moody, strange and mysterious world the viewer is invited to explore with her. The night sky and its stars are the eternal observers of the often dreamlike narratives unfolding below.

Artist Biography

Jane Farnan works in oil and acrylic paint, charcoal, watercolour, ink and pencil and has exhibited portraits, self portraits and landscapes in a number of group and solo shows. Farnan won the People’s Choice Award for her portrait entry in the 2021 Victorian Salon des Refuses competition and she is currently preparing for a solo exhibition of ink and watercolour drawings of her travels in Japan and South Korea at the Portland Arts Centre.
