Roz Esplin

A Cry From The Bush

20 May – 6 June 2015

The bush has feelings

It has a soul

But does it have a voice?

“Sometimes I think we take the bush – our environment – for granted. We think we can control nature. In the city, we all too often ignore it – think of it as a destination for a Sunday drive. Over several years, when my husband was Commissioner for Emergency Services I made many paintings; some considered, and some, intuitive responses to the times and the events taking place including the many bushfires.”

Esplin’s work leans towards abstraction. She is interested in spacial organisation – the relationship of forms within a space and in eliciting an emotional response from the viewer. In this current body of work she aims to portray the changing cycle and circumstances of the bush. Presenting it in a way that captures both the beauty and the horror of nature.
