Matt Ware
Walls to Colour
28 Jan - 8 Feb 2026
G4
Opening night
30 January | 6 - 8pm
Across both bodies of work, Matt embraces ambiguity. He likes to play with perception. Whether the image is from the streets or created in a studio, he treats both the same: as opportunities to leave the viewer questioning - Is it a photograph or a painting? Is it real or constructed?
That is exactly where his work comes alive.
Matt's photographs refuse to settle neatly into any one category. He likes it when the real becomes slippery - when a photograph behaves like a painting, or when an image hints at being a digital creation.
This leaves viewers suspended in the in-between, drawn in to question: What exactly am I looking at?
Artist Bio
Matt Ware is a photographer who looks for the art the world makes on its own. He is drawn to the textures of urban surfaces, and the intimate sections of concrete walls layered with paint, weather and time. For Matt, these walls are living and evolving canvases - unintentional masterpieces sculptured by nature, decay and countless unseen hands. Always changing with the light - shifting, fading, highlighting in forms that never repeat.
What most people overlook, Matt sees as artwork the world is creating in the background, just waiting to be discovered.
In the studio, his practice shifts towards vibrant experimentation, using light, colour, shadows and everyday objects to craft boldly coloured photographic works. With improvised setups, movement and intuitive play, he pushes his photography towards something less definable - one that edges towards the digital world without fully crossing into it.
His love of colour and curiosity about perception, drives compositions that challenge the eye and blur the boundaries between mediums.
He likes to invite the viewer into a moment of uncertainty - where questioning becomes part of the experience.
