the paintings on display at st. vincent's hospital, melbourne, span seventeen years of her work from 1987 to the present. nora is preoccupied with the landscape, entwined in the rhythms and cycles of nature. she paints the feel of the sun and the wind, the melancholy of the ocean, the shiver of night air, moonlight reflected. what the landscape evokes is of more interest to her than a representation of place. nora has travelled widely. she takes the essence of place and melds it with experience to produce her images. forms are reduced, colours distilled, sometimes imparted with sweeping brushstrokes, sometimes poured, sometimes pale and atmospheric, sometimes concentrated sun-soaked patches. however abstract her forms may appear, they refer back to the shapes and patterns of nature.
