gallery 1 Roger Moloney
Roger Moloney’s paintings offer a view of a surreal world infused with anxiety and disaster. Sinking boats and burning structures…strange formations that linger ominously, hinting at impending crisis or doom. Devoid of inhabitants, we are unsure if disaster has taken its toll. These theatrical elements are employed by Moloney to offer a sense of suspense and chaos.
This exhibition continues Moloney’s long held interest in anxiety, oppression and dislocation. Small in scale, the paintings are colourful yet foreboding. Roger Moloney is a Melbourne based artist who has followed a consistent visual language for the past twenty years.

gallery 2 Petra Nevistic rival archival |
Rival Archival consists of works on paper that explore relationships between words and images. Intimate in scale, the paintings, drawings, books and paper sculptures in the show incorporate text and painted image. The text is based on a collection of words that the artist began about six years ago. It started with the artist collecting fragments of conversations on trains which later lead to borrowing short lines of text from encyclopedias and other non-fiction material. On the basis of this, now extensive word collection, Petra has assembled relationships between found images and her collected words to produce a series of poetic documents that waver between the expected and the uncanny. Petra Nevistic graduated from RMIT with first class honours in 2002 and she was a finalist for the 2004 Fleming Muntz Albury Art Prize.

gallery 3 Adam Sime spirit legends of the kingdom of bhutan
Adam Sime was taught his practice by his father Ian Sime, a Melbourne based non-objective painter of the 50’s and 60’s. Along with instruction in the use of egg tempera, thixotropic gel and anarchist theory, Sime senior instructed his son to avoid the path of art school, group shows and grants, and instead find other means of supporting himself while living a creative life.
Following his father’s advice, Adam Sime maintained a studio and exhibited in ‘street’ and ‘public’ spaces, then later in self-managed non-commercial exhibition areas. He has worked with posters, self adhesive images (excellent for public spaces) and canvas based work. This will be his first exhibition in a commercial gallery. |
